A Memorable Judging Experience in Kiel

The Federation of European Professional Photographers convened in Kiel, Germany, this November for its 46th QEP/MQEP judging session, an event filled with anticipation, creativity, and camaraderie. As a judge for QEP, MQEP, EV, and QEV qualifications, I was honored to participate in this prestigious gathering, where talented photographers and videographers showcased their exceptional work.

The Atmosphere of Judging

Judging is always an emotional experience. Walking into the room, you can feel the weight of hopes and dreams in the air. Photographers pour their hearts into their work, and it’s our responsibility as judges to evaluate each panel with fairness, respect, and attention to detail. Conversations among judges were vibrant, often fueled by differing opinions but always grounded in mutual respect. These discussions highlighted the diverse perspectives and experiences we each brought to the table, enriching the process.

We examined incredible artistry across multiple genres, from evocative portraits to stunning food photography and innovative videography. Every panel told a unique story, reflecting the photographer’s personal vision and dedication. Moments of consensus were rewarding, while debates over specific panels deepened our appreciation for the complexity of this art form.
